“Faculty Development at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), USA.” Project

This development project was started in December 2006. It is designed for training of faculty, staff and students by participating in higher studies, training and short term visits. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is situated in the State of Illinois. The UIUC is a multi-campus state institution of higher learning, with the student population of 44,000 and faculty strength of more than 2,000. The campus has 13 colleges with 123 different departments, offering more than 150 different majors and more than 4,000 courses.

Salient Features of Agreement between UIUC & CIIT:

CIIT signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with UIUC on June 09, 2006. Salient features of the MoA are

  • Education of young faculty and students from the CIIT seeking advanced degrees from the UIUC.
  • Training of faculty, staff and students by participating in training and short term visits.
  • Exchange of faculty, research scientists, and institutional managers for short periods, which is expected to generate and guarantee continued scientific and scholarly cooperation between the two institutions.
  • Exchange of publications and other scientific materials for scholarly and informational purposes.
  • The scholarship covers all tuition fee, health insurance, air tickets and living allowances of the student for a specified period under the MoA.

Requirements for UIUC Graduate Scholarship:

Besides UIUC, CIIT has also set its requirement to avail the fully funded UIUC Scholarship.

  1. 16 years of Education.
  2. 1st Division throughout the Academic career.
  3. Maintaining a CGPA equal to or greater than 3.00
  4. Age not more than 30 years

A proper advertisement is made in the leading newspapers of the country inviting applicants to join CIIT as faculty; the successful candidates are then offered faculty position along with scholarship to UIUC.

Achievements:

30 faculty members of CIIT are presently studying at UIUC and others will join UIUC in the coming semester.

Short Trainings:

Under Short Training program of UIUC, 11 young students/faculty members have had the benefit to work and study in the labs of UIUC in different departments.

GRE and TOEFL Preparatory Classes:

In order to facilitate its faculty, CIIT had arranged preparatory classes of GRE and TOEFL on subsidized rates of 50%, where 50% fee was paid by faculty members and 50% by CIIT. Special coaching classes were arranged on CIIT campus from Princeton Review in the year 2007 whereas similar courses are being conducted in the United State Education Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) where a comprehensive coaching on GRE/GMAT/TOEFL, advising on application writing, reference letter, statement of purpose etc.
